A recent holiday in the US ended with 5 fantastic nights in Miami. I checked the Qantas website each day for about 4 weeks to keep an eye on award flights, and finally decided to connect through Dallas on to Sydney. Business class on American Airlines 772 to Dallas, then first class on the Qantas A380. It did seem a bit luxurious using so many points on first class, but you need to fly first class at some stage, and I’m not a fan of the Qantas A380 business seats. Especially if I’m flying solo, and having to climb over my neighbour to get out of my seat.Cached
I arrived at the boarding gate a few minutes after scheduled boarding time to find the flight had well and truly started boarding. Someone was politely blocking the priority lane and not moving – and when I politely asked if they were priority, they ignored me. So I just went around them. People are strange.
Upon finding my seat I was offered either water or orange juice. Since I had had a few glasses of wine in the lounge I happily accepted a plastic cup of water.
After take off the cabin crew came around with hot towels – which I like seeing for 2 reasons:
*I get to wipe my hands and the tray table and armrest.

American Airlines have 2 versions of their 772 aircraft. One with the B/E Aerospace Super Diamond seats (which are very much international long haul quality herringbone business class seats). And another with the seemingly renowned awful rocking Zodiac seat, with some facing rearwards. Luckily enough I had the former and better. Seatguru said to avoid row 1 due to the galley, but since the main galley appeared to be between the 2 business class cabins, I took a gamble to take the prestigious 1A. Education lottery.
During the first drinks service the friendly cabin crew told me that I had the pilots seat. Apparently they don’t sell 1A on this aircraft for international flights, and it’s used for pilots rest. So 1A really must be the best seat on the plane.Boeing 772 American Airlines Premium Economy
Stretching out into relax mode, was really comfortable. The only irritant was the chunky seatbelt… Compared to a normal slim lap belt, it just makes it a bit less comfortable.Lounge
I was able to access the American Airline Flagship First lounge in Miami, because I was connecting to a first class international flight in Dallas. The Flagship first lounge is much more premium than the normal Admirals Club. I treated myself to a high bench table, with tarmac views. See my separate review of the lounge.Food and Drink
Shortly after takeoff, the trolleys came around offering drinks and warm nuts. I decided it was time for a glass of white wine, and they had either a Chenin Blanc (which I find fr too dry), or a Chardonnay from Napa. The chardonnay was delicious – and the nuts were nicely warmed, crunchy, and a tad salty.
About an hour into the flight the meal service came around. Strangely enough, it started at the back and came to the front. There was 2 choice, between a beef or a pasta (the pasta was explained it’s like an enchilada). I chose the beef, and although it was tough to cut with an airplane knife, it was so tender to eat. It was with a side salad made up of asparagus, chopped iceberg and a few sliced egg tomatoes. The asparagus was so fresh and crunchy, and so was the lettuce and tomato. The meal was offered a normal bread roll or a pretzel roll – the pretzel roll was delicious. There was a vinegar dressing, but after 2 weeks in American i was happy to have some plain green, crunchy greens.
After the mains trays were cleared the cabin crew came around with a tray of freshly baked cookies. There was eith an oat option or a chocolate chip option. I am an absolute sucker for a freshly baked cookie, which is chewy but crunchy on the outside. And this cookie was bang on that brief.
My only critique was that I wasn’ offered any water before or during the meal service. It wasn’t until the dessert ‘cookie’ service that I asked for a glass of water. Which was fine.What else?Flight 772 American Airlines

There’s 3 bathrooms for business class – pretty good ratio. I only went to the bathroom once during the flight, at the start of the trip. Afterlotto. And it was clean, tidy, and what you’d expect from an international business/first class bathroom.

Before poker pros like Dan Harrington and Barry Greenstein were writing strategy books, David Sklansky was the industry’s most prolific author.
In just two summers between 1982 and 1983, Sklansky bagged three gold bracelets at the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP). He went on to write “Hold’em Poker” (1984) one year later, before publishing his masterpiece “The Theory of Poker” (1999) a decade and a half later.
But while Sklansky was busy terrorizing the poker tables in 1982, he found time to invent a completely new way of gambling on table games he dubbed “Casino Poker.”
In Sklansky’s game, players placed an Ante bet before taking five cards at random. The dealer also took five cards, and two of them were exposed to give the player partial information to work off. From there, the player could opt to fold weak holdings, or make a “play” bet for twice the size of their original ante. At showdown, the dealer needed an A-K or better to qualify, which prompted juicy payouts from an escalating pay table.
Sound familiar? Well, it should, because Sklansky says his Casino Poker innovation was the precursor to Caribbean Stud Poker as you know it today.
Back in 2007, Sklansky took to the Two Plus Two poker forum to pen a post titled simply “I Invented Caribbean Stud.” In the post, Sklansky explains how his Casino Poker transformed into Caribbean Stud Poker thanks to a series of unfortunate events:
“In 1982 I invented the game that became Carribbean Stud. I called it Casino Poker. Except for the fact that I exposed one card rather than two, and had no progressive jackpot betting option, the rules were the same. Ante one, bet two more, dealer qualifies with AK. Plus there were bonus pays for high hands.
I was told I couldn’t patent the game but I trademarked the name and put it on trial at Vegas World. I didn’t follow through because my girlfriend died during that time and I wasn’t up to it.
A few years later, a poker player asked me about the game because he knew a casino owner in Aruba. He brought the rules down there, they added the progressive, exposed only one card and got it patented. There is ongoing controversy about that patent and I was asked to give a deposition about it a few years ago.”
While the accuracy of this account can’t be verified, and Sklansky’s name doesn’t appear on the 1988 patent for the game, there’s little reason to doubt his story. Poker players have long been known for dabbling in outside entrepreneurial interests, often with disastrous results due to their lack of business experience and willingness to trust fellow gamblers.
Whether Sklansky truly invented Caribbean Stud Poker will remain an open debate, but in any event, poker players and gamblers alike owe the man a debt of gratitude in more ways than one.2 – Caribbean Stud Poker Offers Unique Casino Pay Tables
As Sklansky mentions in his post, Caribbean Stud Poker offers “bonus” payouts when your hand beats the dealer’s qualifying (A-K high or better) hand.
These bonus payouts are attached to the “play” bet, which is more commonly known as the “raise” bet amongst regular players because you must double the Ante bet to force a showdown.
And as you can see with the pay table below, Caribbean Stud Poker’s dual pay tables for the ante and raise bet make the game quite unique indeed:

The basic Caribbean Stud Poker strategy boils down to a binary decision for the vast majority of hands you’ll see:

*With anything worse than A-K high (A-Q high, K-high, etc.) you should ALWAYS fold
You’ll see some sites out there offering a detailed strategy chart for playing your A-K high hands, and if you use that resource, the house edge comes to 5.22%. But that chart is a bear, with hundreds of different options to memorize, so most Caribbean Stud Players simply use A-K-J-8-3 as their baseline.
In other words, when you have A-K-J-8-3 or better, ALWAYS make the raise bet, while hands like A-K-J-8-2 or worse (A-K-10-x-x, A-K-J-7-x, etc.) should ALWAYS be folded.
Using this strategy shortcut increases the house edge ever so slightly to 5.31%, but that difference is statistically negligible over short-term sessions.4 – Caribbean Stud Poker Has a Cousin Called Caribbean Draw Poker

During its long history, the Jefferson Nickel has undergone a temporary composition change and in recent years, a number of obverse and reverse design changes.
The original Jefferson Nickel was designed by Felix O. Schlag. A left-facing portrait of the former President is shown on the obverse with required inscriptions “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, and the date. The New York Lottery’s primary objective is to raise money to support education in the state. Caribbean stud poker, also called casino stud poker, is a casinotable game with rules derived from five-card studpoker. However, unlike standard poker games, Caribbean stud is played against the house rather than against other players. There is no bluffing or other deception.History[edit]
As a result of the popularity of poker, casinos created a house-banked game in order to entice poker fans to play more table games. The birth of the game is not well referenced, which is unusual for a relatively new game. Professional poker player David Sklansky has claimed that he invented the game in 1982 using the name “Casino Poker”.[1] When he developed the game the rules had some differences, with the dealer having two cards revealed instead of only one. Likewise there was no progressive jackpot in the game he allegedly founded. Sklansky was unable to patent ’Casino Poker’ due to patent laws, according to the story. A few years afterwards he was approached by a poker player who brought the game to The King International Casino in Aruba (now known as the Excelsior Casino) and had it patented. The poker player and the casino owner changed the rules slightly to create current Caribbean stud poker.Rules[edit]
The following rules are typical of play in U.S. casinos, but some of the details, such as payouts and betting limits, vary by location.
To play, each player places his or her ante on a marked spot on the table playing surface (’the layout’); all ante wagers must be placed prior to the dealer announcing ’no more bets’. Each player also has the option to participate in the progressive jackpot feature of the game. This is also done before the dealer announces ’no more bets’, usually in a separate marked area. Each player and the dealer will then receive five cards, face down. The dealer will turn over one of his cards, after which the players may look at their cards.
Players have the option to either play or fold. Any player choosing to play places their raise, an additional wager equal to twice the amount of the ante, into the box marked Bet. Any player who chooses to fold forfeits their ante. After all the players have made their decisions, the dealer reveals their four face down cards. The dealer only qualifies (plays) if his hand either contains both an ace and a king or forms a pair or any higher-ranked poker hand. The dealer then compares his five-card hand to those of the other players, individually, and both the ante and the raise bets of all players whose hands beat the dealer’s qualified hand win. If they do not beat the dealer’s hand, they lose both the ante and the raise wager. If a player ties with the dealer, both ante and raise bets push (return to their respective players with no additional money won). If the dealer’s hand does not qualify, the ante bets of players get paid even money while the respective raise bets all push.[2]
In the United Kingdom the game is officially known as ’Casino Five Card stud poker’, and not all casinos have the jackpot prize. Those which do have the prize, usually the large chain groups, officially call the game ’Casino Jackpot Five Card stud poker’. In both instances, the game is commonly referred to as ’Casino stud poker’.
The basic rules are the same in the UK as the US, although the payouts differ – the maximum bet is generally £100 on the ante and £200 on the raise, and all payouts are paid on the raise, meaning the maximum payout can potentially be £10,000 (a Royal Flush pays at the same odds, 50:1, as a Straight Flush). A malicious website is a site that attempts to install malware (a general term for anything that will disrupt computer operation, gather your personal information or, in a worst-case scenario, gain total access to your machine) onto your device. This usually requires some action on your part, however, in the case of a drive-by download, the website will attempt to install software on your computer without asking for permission first.
What’s more, malicious websites often look like legitimate websites. Sometimes they will ask you to install software that your computer appears to need. For example, a video website might ask you to install a codec, which is a small piece of information a video player needs to run on a website. You might be used to installing safe codecs, but it only takes one unsafe installation to compromise your machine, and your sensitive information along with it. Similarly, the website might ask for permission to install one program, but install a completely different one -- one that you definitely do not want on your computer.What is a drive-by download?

High-stakes poker pro Susie Zhao saw herself as a “unicorn” in a male-dominated field — and flourished in her outsider role, amassing nearly a quarter-million dollars in winnings since 2009.

Eventually, Polk ditched the truck driver schtick, but he did end up winning a ton of money as the duo completed the challenge Wednesday evening with a marathon session. Over 1,712 hands and more than six hours of heads-up poker, Polk won $255,722 and netted a win of more than $1.2 million for the entire challenge.
“Congratulations to Doug,” said Negreanu after the match in a post-game interview on the GGPoker YouTube channel. “He’s a great player and obviously the favorite going in. It was a fun challenge. I felt like there were ebbs and flows, of course, in terms of how I felt about it. He’s happy, obviously. He’s the big winner on the match, deservedly so. He played well.”
Following some shenanigans last week where Polk using a strategy that involved limping a ton of hands on the button, which Negreanu countered by excessively tanking, there were only 3,694 hands remaining in the challenge. On Wednesday afternoon, Negreanu said that the challenge was “likely to finish Friday unless we are feeling spicy and looking to gamboooool!”
The spice was clearly there and the pair decided to play long enough to end it. Polk came into the final two sessions with a nearly insurmountable lead of $736,804 and extended it by winning $209,281 on Monday.
Negreanu opened up a six-figure lead in Wednesday’s final session, but ultimately the tides turned and Polk won the four buy-ins back from the six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner to get unstuck on the day and proceeded to win more than six buy-ins after that. Polk was on the right end of several coolers including a preflop all in with both players holding A-K. But a runout that contained for spades gave Polk the nut flush and a huge pot.
“The key about massive hands, right?” said Negreanu. “Step 1 is get one. And step 2 is have your opponent have something so strong that you’re going to get all the money.”
It takes some good fortune to go on a 10 buy-in upswing over the course of a six-hour session, but Polk said he was proud of the work that he put into getting back into the swing of heads-up no-limit hold ’em, a game he was once considered the best in the world at.
“I’m very happy that I spent so much time preparing and it really ended up helping me tremendously,” said Polk in a post-game interview of his with Nick Schulman and Jaime Kerstetter on his own YouTube channel. “And that I got to execute at such a high level over such a long period of time.”
Polk went on to thank a slew of people that he had in his corner throughout the whole match.
The three-time WSOP bracelet winner said that he was working with a few people from a general coaching perspective that helped him lock down his approach to the game, another handful of poker players that helped him implement preflop ranges to coincide with Negreanu’s different raise sizes, as well as a large group of members from his own training site, Upswing Poker, that tracked the action of every hand played, which was then inputted into multiple spreadsheets.
And from Negreanu’s point of view, the team kept Polk ahead of the curve.
“Every Monday he came back prepared,” said Negreanu. “He seemed to make some adjustments because there were always holes that we were looking to exploit. There were definitely some. 777 PMDG does not require a review. PMDG brand and 777 add-on excellence are well known and are commonly treated as examples of highest quality in the flight sim market. I could write a standard review, rating each and every feature of this plane with 5 or 6 start but that makes no sens. Instead – I am going to publish a series of texts introducing this plane and describing my experience with it. This review is not about changing your opinion. It is about showing you what exactly the “highest quality” means. Instead of writing “what” is good in this plane – I will explain “why” I think it is such a good product and how it is different from many other available.
This review will be very detailed. Sometimes I will put things in the simplest possible terms – for the people who have never flown an advanced plane before. If you think that this part or the next explains something obvious – skip it and go to the next part – I hope I will surprise you every now and then even if you have flown this plane many times.Purchase

120 of 175 pages are dedicated to answering questions concerning PMDG 777 that arose (or could have arisen) and to explaining the function of every page of PMDG 777’s FMC MENU.
In some cases I think it’s was an overkill – just take a look at this Doors window – it takes the whole page and clarifies that… this page is used to open and close aircraft doors.

This page shows the philosophy behind PMDG’s manual – “nothing is too irrelevant or too simple”.
I have recently flown two planes that only had vague manuals – after this experience I prefer PMDG’s method. And I really admire the amount of work that someone put into this manual!
One more thing – I had not encountered a single problem with PMDG 777 that I could not solve with it’s manuals. This shows how well they are prepared.

Only 128 pages are sufficient to explain how to take this plane for a short flight from Dubai to Maldives – from the startup to shutdown. Do not worry – illustrations take a lot of space in this tutorial.

Boeing 777 has four main manuals that are used by the flight crew:

I did not see any differences between this manuals and the real world manuals of the 777 that I had earlier. Differences I noticed can be explained by the different equipment used in the airline from which the manual came from.

777Manuals – read this before you run away
I know that three and half thousand pages sounds scary. Especially when compared to an ordinary FSX add-on that has only 30 or 50 page manual. My first though was – “how people find time to read this?”. I will share my experience – I never considered it an obligatory reading. I am not trying to be the real world 777 pilot and I do not have to acquire knowledge of each and every system, button and knob on this plane. Learning how to fly the 777 is a process. In real world this process starts when a pilot learns to fly planes that are less complicated. In the safe environment of flight simulation we can jump into deep end – learning new things as we fly this plane. It’s a good way to learn this plane.
To be hones I need to warn you – I had a lot of experience with other advanced add-ons. 777 systems are not that hard to figure out by someone who has at least basic knowledge.
For those who do not have any previous experience PMDG gives the tutorial – try it and you will get some of the necessary knowledge. Try to alter it a little (maybe change the destination – and both airports) – and you will learn more. In every flight you will learn and get better.
